al Hommsi v. Donald Trump et al.
“Al Homssi was supposed to be at work today, seeing patients. Instead, he remains in the United Arab Emirates while three lawyers—Thomas Anthony Durkin, Robin V. Waters, and Bernard E. Harcourt—are toiling on his behalf. Yesterday, they submitted to the court a legal complaint as well as a number of exhibits, including a letter from his supervisor stating that ‘his performance has been excellent at all levels. His timely presence is critically needed to continue providing patient care at our hospital.” – The New Yorker

John Adams Project
Mr. Durkin was one of five attorneys selected nationwide to participate in the John Adams Project, a joint effort of the American Civil Liberties Union and the National Association of Criminal Defense Lawyers, to provide civilian defense counsel to assist the military lawyers in the trial of the five High Value Detainees charged in the Military Commissions at Guantanamo Bay, Cuba, with conspiring to orchestrate the September 11, 2001, attacks. Mr. Durkin was civilian counsel for Defendant Ramzi Bin Al Shibh.

Guantanamo Bay Detainees
Mr. Durkin and Mrs. Roberts, along with the Center for Constitutional Rights in New York City, represented three detainees held at Guantanamo Bay, Cuba, and now released: Walid Ali, from the Sudan, Abdul Raham Houari, from Algeria, and Abdul Latif Nasser, from Morocco.

Occupy Chicago
Mr. Durkin represented a group of University of Chicago graduate students who were arrested in October 2011 during the mass arrests of Occupy Chicago protesters in Grant Park. In September 2012 Associate Judge Thomas Donnelly ruled that the arrests violated the protesters’ constitutional rights.

Global Relief Foundation, Inc.
Mr. Durkin represented the Global Relief Foundation, Inc., of Bridgeview, Illinois, one of the Islamic charities whose assets were blocked after September 11, 2001, under provisions of the U.S. PATRIOT Act by the Treasury Department’s Office of Foreign Assets Control.
